## Gemeinsames „Lesen“ von Bilderbüchern

Die Mutter macht mit Irem und Ilke einen Ausflug in die Bibliothek. Viele Bücher stehen dort zur Verfügung, auch Kinderbücher in verschiedenen Sprachen. Irem darf sich ein Buch zum gemeinsamen Lesen aussuchen. Das Vorlesen beinhaltet nicht nur das Aussprechen dessen, was in Schrift abgedruckt ist. Es beinhaltet auch das Nachverfolgen einer Geschichte anhand des Textes und anhand von Bildern, das Sprechen über diese Geschichte und über das, was auf den Bildern sonst noch alles zu sehen ist. Bei Irem, Ilke und ihrer Mutter ergeben sich beim Vorlesen lebhafte Dialoge zwischen allen dreien. Irem möchte wissen, warum der Kinderwagen hinuntergestürzt ist („Was hat er gemacht?“). Ilke leidet mit dem Baby („Mama, schau ... aua ... das Baby.“) und zeigt Einfühlungsvermögen. Aufmerksam geht die Mutter auf die Kommentare ein. Irem und Ilke werden von der Mutter immer wieder dazu angeregt, in Worte zu fassen, was sie in dem Buch sehen („Was ist das?“). Sie lenkt die Aufmerksamkeit ihrer Kinder durch Hinweise auf bestimmte Details in der Bilderfolge. Die Kinder benennen die Objekte und Personen in den Bildern und die Mutter wiederholt die Begriffe. Durch diese Wiederholungen spiegelt und bestätigt die Mutter die Antworten der Kinder. So wird ganz nebenbei auch der Wortschatz der Kinder gefestigt und erweitert. Das sogenannte dialogische Vorlesen – das gemeinsame Lesen einer Geschichte und laufende Sprechen darüber – ist eine bedeutende Art und Weise, die sprachliche Entwicklung der Kinder, insbesondere den Wortschatz, auf vielfältige und altersangemessene Weise zu fördern.

Welche weiteren Aspekte der sprachlichen und kognitiven Entwicklung fördert das gemeinsame Lesen von Geschichten? Während die Kinder gespannt die Geschichte verfolgen, ihr Blick Seite für Seite der Schrift und den Illustrationen folgt, wandeln sich die vielen Worte über die Stimme der Mutter in konkrete Bilder. Vor dem geistigen Auge spielt sich ein farbiger und detailreicher Film ab. In diesem Fall begleiten die Kinder die Katze Mieze Matz auf ihren Abenteuern. Ein lebendiges und kreatives Vorstellungsvermögen sind eine wertvolle Bereicherung für das kindliche Erleben und Schaffen.

Das schulische Lernen basiert weitgehend auf dem Medium Buch. Die frühen Erfahrungen mit Büchern, Schrift und Bildern ist daher für die Bildungsbiographie von grosser Bedeutung. Kindern sollte von Beginn an ein positiver Zugang zu Büchern ermöglicht werden, sodass sie auch im schulischen Kontext ein Interesse an Büchern haben und über einen kompetenten Umgang mit diesen verfügen. Die Freude an Büchern, Geschichten, Bildern und Schrift weckt auch die Lust, selbst lesen und schreiben zu lernen. Die Erzählsprache ist darüber hinaus eine wichtige Brücke zwischen der Alltagssprache und den zentralen Kompetenzen der späteren Bildungssprache, dem Lesen und Schreiben. Sprache ist eine Schlüsselkompetenz für schulisches Lernen und Bildungserfolg.

Im Rahmen der frühen Sprachbildung kommt literalen Aktivitäten daher eine zentrale Stellung zu. Denn die frühe Beschäftigung mit Büchern vermag altersgerecht kleinen Kindern die Freude und Begeisterung an Sprache entwickeln zu lassen.

## Physisches und psychisches Wohlbefinden

Eng an die Mutter gekuschelt schauen Irem und Ilke in das Buch, während die Mutter vorliest. Damit sich Kinder gut entwickeln können, brauchen sie mehr als nur Nahrung, Schlaf, Kleidung und ein Zuhause. Kinder brauchen vertraute Personen, die einfühlsam ihre Bedürfnisse erkennen sowie angemessen darauf reagieren und den Kindern liebevoll Zuwendung und Zeit schenken. Der Aufbau von starken emotionalen Bindungen zu einer oder mehreren Bezugspersonen ist zentral für die kindliche Entwicklung. Hier ist die Mutter der „sichere Hafen“. Durch die Körpernähe erhalten die Kinder von ihrer Mutter Zuwendung und Geborgenheit. In ihren Armen fühlen sich die Kinder sicher und beschützt. Die beiden sind entspannt und können sich ganz auf das Bilderbuch konzentrieren. Denn nur, wenn sich Kinder physisch und psychisch wohl fühlen, sind sie offen für Lernerfahrungen.

## Gemeinschaftliches Lernen

Irem, Ilke und die Mutter lesen heute das Buch zum ersten Mal. So hat keiner einen Wissensvorsprung, sondern alle drei entdecken etwas Neues. Beim gemeinsamen Lesen und Besprechen der Geschichte taucht plötzlich eine Frage auf: „Aber wem gehört die Tasche?“ Ilke und die Mutter glauben zuerst, dass die Tasche der Mutter aus dem Buch gehört. Doch beide liegen falsch. Ilke erkennt den Irrtum sofort und sagt deutlich: „Nein. Die Tasche seiner Mutter war grün.“ Die Mutter ist offen für Ilkes Einwand. Sie weiss, dass sich manchmal auch Erwachsene irren können. Aus der Frage nach der Tasche entwickelt sich nun eine gemeinsame Suche durch das Buch. Es muss überlegt und sich erinnert werden. Gemeinsam finden sie die Antwort.

## “Reading” picture books together

Irem and Ilke visit the library with their mother, where there are lots of books, including children’s books in various languages. Irem is allowed to choose a book for them to read together. Reading to children consists of more than reading the written text aloud. Reading to children also means following a story through the text and the illustrations, talking about the story and about what can be seen in the pictures. When Irem, Ilke and their mother read a picture book together, a lively discussion develops in which all three take part. Irem wants to know why the baby carriage rolled down (“What did he do?“). Ilke feels for the baby (“Mama, look…oh…the baby”) and shows empathy. The children‘s mother listens to their comments carefully. She continuously prompts the children to say something about what they see in the book (“What is this?”). She draws their attention to particular details in the sequence of illustrations. The children name the objects and people in the pictures, and their mother repeats the words. By repeating their words, their mother mirrors and confirms the children’s answers, which also consolidates and expands the children’s personal vocabularies. This way of reading to young children, called dialogic reading, involves children and adults having a conversation about a book; it is a significant way to promote language development in children, especially their vocabularies, age-appropriately.

What other aspects of language and cognitive development are promoted by dialogic reading to children? As children follow the story with interest, looking at the text and illustrations page by page, the many words are transformed by the mother’s voice into concrete pictures. The mind’s eye is watching a film that is in color and rich in detail. In this case, the children are following the adventures of a cat called _Mieze Matz_. A lively and creative imagination is a valuable enrichment for children’s experience and activities.

Learning at school is based largely on the medium of books. Early experiences with books, texts and illustrations are therefore very important for children’s learning biographies. From an early age, young children should be given the opportunity to have positive experiences with books so that they will also be interested in books at school and can deal with them competently. Enjoyment of books, stories, illustrations and texts also sparks a desire to learn to read and write. Narrative language is also an important bridge between everyday language and key language skills later on—namely, reading and writing. Language is a key competency for school learning and educational success.

For this reason, reading activities play a central role in early language acquisition. Early experience with books allows young children to develop pleasure in and enthusiasm about language in an age-appropriate way.

## Physical and emotional well-being

Irem and Ilke cuddle up close to their mother as they look at the book that she is reading to them. For good development, children need more than food, sleep, clothes and a home. Children need trusted persons who are perceptive of their needs, respond appropriately and give the children loving attention and time. Developing a strong emotional attachment to one or more attachment figures is central to a child’s development. Here, their mother is their “safe harbor”. Close physical proximity with their mother gives the children care and security. In her arms the children feel secure and protected. Both children are relaxed and can focus all of their attention on the picture book. Children are only open to learning experiences when they feel well physically and emotionally.

## Learning together

Irem, Ilke and their mother are reading this picture book for the first time. None of them knows more about it than the others; all three are discovering something new. As they read together and discuss the story, a question suddenly comes up: “But whom does the bag belong to?” Ilke and his mother think at first that the bag belongs to the mother in the story. But they are both wrong. Ilke sees their mistake immediately and says clearly: “No. His mother’s bag was green.” His mother is open to Ilke’s correction. She knows that adults can get things wrong sometimes, too. The question of the bag’s ownership leads to a joint search through the book. They all have to think about it and recall the story. And together they find the answer.

## «Lire» ensemble des livres d’images

Leur mère accompagne Irem et Ilke pour une sortie à la bibliothèque. Il y a beaucoup de livres, et notamment beaucoup de livres pour enfants dans différentes langues. Irem est autorisée à choisir un livre pour qu’on le lise ensemble. Lire à haute voix, ce n’est pas seulement prononcer les mots imprimés sur les pages. Cela veut aussi dire suivre une histoire à l’aide du texte et des images, parler de cette histoire et de tout ce que l’on peut voir sur les images. Entre Irem, Ilke et leur mère, la lecture donne lieu à de vifs échanges. Irem veut savoir pourquoi la poussette est tombée («Qu’est-ce qu’il a fait?»). Ilke souffre pour le bébé («Maman, regarde! Oh!... Le bébé.») et fait preuve d’empathie. La mère réagit avec attention aux commentaires de ses enfants. Elle incite en permanence Irem et Ilke à exprimer avec des mots ce qu’ils voient dans le livre («Ah, qu’est-ce que c’est que ça?»). Elle guide leur attention en indiquant certains détails dans les images. Les enfants désignent les objets et les personnes, et la mère les répète après eux. Au travers de ces répétitions, la mère fait écho aux réponses des enfants. Leur vocabulaire s’en trouve ainsi consolidé et enrichi, en passant. La lecture dialoguée, c’est-à-dire la lecture d’une histoire, tout en en discutant, permet de favoriser le développement du langage chez l’enfant, et notamment l’acquisition de vocabulaire, d’une manière intéressante et adaptée à son âge.

Quels sont les autres aspects du développement linguistique et cognitif qui peuvent bénéficier d’une telle lecture? Lorsque les enfants écoutent passionnément l’histoire, en suivant page après page les inscriptions et les illustrations, les mots prononcés par leur mère se transforment en images concrètes. C’est comme si un film riche en couleurs et en détails était projeté devant eux. Ici, ils accompagnent le petit chat Minou dans ses aventures. Une imagination vivante et créative constitue un enrichissement précieux pour la sensibilité et la créativité des enfants.

L’apprentissage scolaire s’appuie largement sur le livre. C’est pourquoi les expériences précoces avec des livres, la chose écrite et les images sont essentielles dans la biographie de la formation. Il faut donner aux enfants dès le début un accès positif aux livres, de manière à ce que, dans le contexte scolaire, ils développent un intérêt pour les livres et soient parfaitement à l’aise avec ce média. La joie procurée par les livres, les histoires, les images et l’écrit donne également envie d’apprendre soi-même à lire et à écrire. La langue de la narration est de plus une passerelle importante entre la langue de tous les jours et les compétences centrales de la langue de la formation, de la lecture et de l’écriture, que les enfants acquerront plus tard. La langue est une compétence clé de l’apprentissage scolaire et du succès de la formation.

C’est pourquoi les activités liées à l’écriture et à la lecture occupent une place centrale dans le cadre de la formation linguistique précoce. Car un contact précoce avec les livres donne aux jeunes enfants la capacité d’éprouver du plaisir et de l’enthousiasme vis-à-vis de la langue, et ce d’une manière adaptée à leur âge.

## Bien-être physique et psychique

Blottis contre leur mère, Irem et Ilke regardent le livre et écoutent leur mère lire l’histoire. Pour que les enfants puissent bien se développer, il leur faut davantage que simplement l’alimentation, le sommeil, les vêtements et un toit. Ils ont besoin de personnes qu’ils connaissent bien, qui savent reconnaître leurs besoins, y répondent de manière appropriée et leur consacre de l’attention et du temps. La construction de liens émotionnels forts avec une ou plusieurs personnes de référence est centrale dans le développement de l’enfant. Ici, la mère est ce «point d’ancrage». Sa proximité physique donne aux enfants toute l’attention et le soin qu’ils attendent d’elle. Dans ses bras, ils se sentent en sécurité et protégés. Les deux enfants sont détendus et peuvent se concentrer sur le livre d’images. Car les enfants ne sont réceptifs à des expériences d’apprentissage que lorsqu’ils se sentent bien, sur les plans physique et psychique.

## Apprendre ensemble

Irem, Ilke et leur mère lisent aujourd’hui le livre pour la première fois. Aucun des trois n’en sait plus que les autres sur ce livre, ils découvrent tous quelque chose de nouveau. Lors de cette lecture commune entrecoupée d’échange, une question surgit soudain: «Mais à qui appartient-il, ce sac? » Ilke et sa mère croient d’abord que le sac appartient à la mère dans le livre. Mais les deux se trompent. Ilke reconnaît tout de suite l’erreur et dit clairement: «Non. Le sac de sa maman était vert.» La mère accepte l’objection d’Ilke. Elle sait que les adultes peuvent parfois aussi se tromper. La question du sac entraîne une recherche commune à travers le livre. Il faut réfléchir et se souvenir. Ensemble, ils trouvent la réponse.

## La “lettura“ in comune di libri illustrati

La mamma si reca in biblioteca con Irem ed Ilke. Sono molti i libri a disposizione, anche libri per bambini in varie lingue. Irem può scegliersi un libro da leggere insieme. La pre-lettura non comprende solo la verbalizzazione della scrittura stampata. Seguendo la trama di una storia scritta nel testo, e con l’ausilio di immagini, essa suscita forme di commento sulla storia e su ciò che è possibile vedere nelle immagini. Tra Irem, Ilke e la loro mamma, nascono animati dialoghi. Irem vorrebbe sapere perché il passeggino si è rovesciato (“Cosa ha fatto?“). Ilke soffre per il neonato (“Mamma, guarda...aua...il bebè.“) e mostra capacità di immedesimazione.

La mamma, con attenzione, entra nel merito dei commenti. La mamma stimola Irem e Ilke a dire con parole ciò che vedono nel libro (“Cos è questo?“). La mamma orienta l’attenzione dei suoi bambini sui dettagli della serie di immagini. I bambini attribuiscono un nome agli oggetti e alle persone delle immagini, la mamma ripete i concetti. Attraverso le ripetizioni la mamma rispecchia e conferma la risposta data dai bambini.

Così facendo, in modo indiretto, si consolida e si amplia il bagaglio di parole dei bambini. La pre-lettura dialogata – leggere e commentare insieme una storia – è un modo significativo per incoraggiare, in modo variato e adeguato all’età, lo sviluppo linguistico del bambino, incentivando in modo particolare il suo capitale di parole.

Quali sono gli altri aspetti dello sviluppo cognitivo e linguistico che la lettura in comune riesce a stimolare? Mentre i bambini seguono con attenzione la storia e sfogliano il libro con le immagini, passo dopo passo, attraverso la voce della madre, molte parole si trasformano in immagini concrete. Davanti agli occhi pensanti del bambino avviene la proiezione di sequenze di un film colorato e dettagliato. Nel caso particolare i bambini seguono le avventure del gatto Mieze Matze. Una capacità di rappresentazione mentale, creativa e vitale arricchisce il vissuto di esperienze e di attività del bambino.

L’apprendimento scolastico avviene, in larga parte, facendo capo allo strumento del libro. Il percorso biografico dell’apprendimento attraverso immagini, le esperienze precoci con libri, con la scrittura e con immagini, rivestono una grande importanza. Sin dall’inizio è auspicabile favorire un contatto positivo con i libri, affinché, a scuola, il rapporto con i libro possa aver luogo in un contesto di interesse e di competenza.

Il piacere di rapportarsi a libri, a storie, e a immagini suscita il desiderio di imparare a leggere e a scrivere. La lingua del raccontare fa da ponte tra il linguaggio della quotidianità e, più avanti nel tempo, con la lingua della formazione e con il leggere e lo scrivere. La lingua è una competenza chiave per l’apprendimento scolastico e per il successo nella formazione.

Nell’ambito dell’apprendimento precoce le attività con la lingua scritta svolgono una funzione centrale. L’attività precoce con libri favorisce nei bambini piccoli lo sviluppo del piacere e dell’entusiasmo verso la lingua.

## Benessere fisico e psichico

Accovacciati, vicini alla madre, Irem e Ilke guardano il libro, mentre la mamma legge. I bambini per poter crescere e svilupparsi non hanno solo bisogno di cibo, di sonno, di vestiti e di una casa. I bambini hanno bisogno di persone di fiducia che, con empatia, sanno riconoscere i loro bisogni e sanno rispondere alle loro esigenze con amore, con dedizione, concedendo tempo. Per lo sviluppo del bambino le relazioni intense, con una o più persone, sono di centrale importanza. In questi casi la madre rappresenta il “porto sicuro“.

Attraverso la vicinanza corporea i bambini avvertono l’attenzione e l’intimità. Nelle braccia della madre si sentono sicuri e protetti. Madre e bambino sono rilassati e, ambedue, possono dedicare la loro attenzione al libro illustrato. Solo nel momento in cui i bambini si sentono a loro agio, dal punto di vista fisico e psichico, sono anche aperti a esperienze di apprendimento.

## Apprendimento collettivo

Irem, Ilke e la mamma leggono oggi il libro per la prima volta. Nessuno dei tre può vantare un vantaggio di conoscenze, tutti e tre scoprono qualche cosa di nuovo. Improvvisamente, mentre insieme i tre leggono e discutono la storia, sorge una domanda: “A chi appartiene la cartella?“. In un primo momento Ilke e la mamma credono che la cartella appartenga alla mamma del libro. Ma i due si sbagliano. Ilke si accorge subito dell’errore e afferma in modo chiaro: “No, la cartella della mamma era verde“. La mamma è aperta all’obiezione di Ilke. La mamma sa che anche gli adulti possono sbagliare. Dalla domanda prende origine una ricerca in comune attraverso il libro. Occorre riflettere e ricordare insieme. La risposta la si trova insieme.
