## Lernen mit allen Sinnen

Die Mutter hat für Melina einen Korb mit verschiedenen Dingen auf den Fussboden gestellt. Neugierig krabbelt Melina darauf zu und holt einen Gegenstand nach dem anderen heraus. Auch ein Saucenlöffel ist dabei. Gespannt beobachtet Melina, wie er sich bewegt, und hört die Geräusche, welche das Küchenutensil beim Hin- und Her-Rollen auf dem Boden macht. Nun ist das Interesse von Melina geweckt. Sie nimmt den Löffel in die Hand und führt ihn zum Mund. Sie spürt und schmeckt erst die eine und dann die andere Seite. Wahrscheinlich riecht sie auch das Metall. Danach schwenkt sie den Löffel mit dem Arm nach oben und unten, kratzt sich damit am Kopf und steckt ihn dann wieder in den Mund. Dort wird er ausgiebig erkundet. Er fällt zu Boden und wieder sind klappernde Geräusche zu hören, denen Melina lauscht. Noch einmal anschauen und ein letztes Mal in den Mund stecken, dann wendet sich Melina wieder dem Korb zu. Melina nutzt all ihre Sinne, um den Saucenlöffel zu erkunden. Dadurch erfährt das Mädchen einiges über Form und Beschaffenheit des Löffels. Mit Lauten begleitet sie ihr Tun und gibt ihrer Begeisterung Ausdruck.

Aber nicht nur für den Saucenlöffel lässt sich Melina begeistern, auch das kleine Kind, welches ihr gegenüber sitzt, weckt ihre Aufmerksamkeit. Noch hat sie nicht realisiert, dass sie sich selbst und kein anderes Mädchen im Spiegel sieht. Vorerst beobachtet sie fasziniert die Bewegungen und die Mimik, die ihr Gegenüber macht. Kleine Kinder lernen handelnd und beobachtend.

## Anregungsreiche Lernumgebung

Melina sitzt in ihrem Kinderzimmer auf dem Boden. Der vertraute Raum ist so eingerichtet, dass Melina ohne Gefahren ihre Umgebung erkunden kann. Die Mutter ist in unmittelbarer Nähe, in Hör- und Sichtweite. Sie könnte sofort kommen, falls ihre Tochter Hilfe benötigte. So hat Melina die Möglichkeit, auf Entdeckungsreise zu gehen. Dazu hat die Mutter verschiedene Sachen bereitgelegt, die für das Mädchen anregend sind und ihm vielfältige Lerngelegenheiten bieten. Einmal ist da der Korb mit verschiedenen Gegenständen: mit ein paar Spielsachen und auch mit einem Saucenlöffel. Melina kann diese Materialien nach Belieben erreichen. Sie kann selbständig hinkrabbeln und sich das herausnehmen, was sie möchte. Vor allem der Gegenstand aus dem Haushalt, also der Saucenlöffel, hat ihr Interesse geweckt. Es müssen nicht immer vorgefertigte Spielsachen sein, gerade auch Alltagsgegenstände laden zum Erkunden und Experimentieren ein. Und dann gibt es noch einen grossen Spiegel. Darin kann Melina genau beobachten, was sie selbst tut. Später wird sie auch hineinschauen, um zu wissen, wie sie selbst aussieht und wie sie nach aussen wirkt. Somit unterstützt der Spiegel auch die Identitätsbildung von Kindern. Auf diesem Weg erweitern Kinder ihre Kompetenz, sich und andere wahrzunehmen.

Das Kinderzimmer von Melina ist so gestaltet, dass es einerseits Anregung, andererseits aber auch Erholung bietet. Die Einrichtung ist weder zu karg noch zu überfüllt mit Gegenständen. Der Raum regt zwar zum Spielen und Erkunden an, das Kind wird jedoch nicht mit Reizen überflutet.

Damit Kinder sich mit ihrer Umwelt und mit sich selbst auseinandersetzen können, brauchen sie eine sichere Bindung zu Bezugspersonen. Die Gelegenheit, sich eigenaktiv mit etwas Interessantem zu beschäftigen und sich darin vertiefen zu können, ist für die Entwicklungs- und Lernprozesse von Kleinkindern wichtig.

## Learning with all their senses

Melina’s mother has put a basket containing interesting objects on the floor for her. Curious, Melina crawls to the basket and takes out one object after another, including a soup ladle. With rapt attention Melina watches how the ladle rocks to and fro on the floor and listens to the sounds it makes as it rattles. This has caught her interest. She picks up the ladle and draws it to her mouth. She feels and tastes first one side and then the other. She probably smells the metal, too. Then she swings the ladle up and down with her arm, scratches her head with it and then puts it in her mouth again. She explores the ladle extensively with her mouth. Melina listens when the ladle drops to the floor and makes clattering noises again. She looks at the ladle once more, puts it in her mouth a last time and then turns her attention back to the basket of objects. Melina uses all of her senses to examine the ladle and learns about its shape and properties. As she engages with the ladle she makes sounds and expresses her enthusiasm.

But she is not only taken by the ladle. Her attention has also been captured by the small child sitting facing her. She has not yet realized that the child in the mirror is no one but herself. For now, she watches the movements and facial expressions of the child in the mirror with fascination. Young children learn by doing and by observing.

## Stimulating learning environment

Melina is sitting on the floor in her room. This familiar room is set up so that Melina can explore her surroundings in safety. Her mother is nearby, within sight and hearing distance. She could come immediately if Melina needed help. This makes it possible for Melina to go on a voyage of discovery. To this purpose, her mother has provided a number of things that are stimulating for Melina and give her a variety of learning opportunities. There is the basket filled with a few toys and a soup ladle. Melina can access these materials as she wishes. She can crawl to the basket by herself and take out an object of her own choosing. A household object, the soup ladle, has caught her particular interest. Children do not always need ready-made toys; everyday objects, too, invite them to explore and experiment. There is also a large mirror in the room. In the mirror Melina can watch what she herself is doing. Later on, she will look in the mirror to find out what she looks like and how she appears to others. Mirrors also promote identity formation in children. In this way, children expand their ability to perceive themselves and others.

Melina’s room is designed to provide stimulation but also allow rest and recovery. The room is not too sparsely furnished but is also not overcrowded with things. It invites play and exploration but does not overwhelm the child with stimuli.

For children to be able to get to know the world around them and also themselves, they need secure relationships with attachment figures. The opportunity to engage actively with interesting things and become deeply absorbed is important for children’s development and learning.

## Apprendre avec tous les sens

La mère de Melina a placé pour elle, par terre, un panier contenant différents objets. Curieuse, Melina rampe vers lui et en sort un objet après l’autre. S’y trouve aussi une cuillère à sauce. Melina observe avec attention comment l’objet bouge, écoute les bruits que l’ustensile de cuisine produit lorsqu’il roule de ci de là. Son intérêt est maintenant éveillé. Elle prend la cuillère à sauce et la porte à sa bouche. Elle éprouve le contact et le goût d’un côté, puis de l’autre. Elle sent sans doute aussi le métal. Elle agite la cuillère à sauce, avec le bras, de haut en bas, s’en sert pour se gratter la tête et la porte à nouveau à sa bouche, où elle la soumet alors à une inspection approfondie. La cuillère tombe par terre et, de nouveau, des cliquetis, auxquels Melina prête l’oreille, se font entendre. De nouveau, elle observe la cuillère à sauce, la porte une dernière fois à sa bouche, puis se tourne à nouveau vers le panier. Melina utilise tous ses sens pour explorer la cuillère à sauce. La petite fille en apprend ainsi plus sur la forme et les caractéristiques de l’objet. Elle accompagne de sons ses faits et gestes et manifeste ainsi son enthousiasme.

Mais elle n’est pas seulement enthousiasmée par la cuillère à sauce; le petit enfant qui est assis en face d’elle attire aussi son attention. Elle n’a pas encore réalisée que c’est elle-même qu’elle voit ainsi dans le miroir. Elle observe d’abord, fascinée, les mouvements et la mimique que fait celui-ci. Les jeunes enfants apprennent en agissant et en observant.

## Un environnement d’apprentissage plein de stimulations

Melina est assise par terre dans sa chambre. L’espace familier est aménagé de manière à ce qu’elle puisse explorer son environnement sans danger. Sa mère est à proximité immédiate, elle peut la voir et l’entendre. Elle pourrait venir tout de suite si sa fille avait besoin d’aide. Melina peut ainsi entreprendre un voyage de découverte. Sa mère a préparé pour cela plusieurs choses qui sont intéressantes pour la petite fille et lui offrent de nombreuses possibilités d’apprentissage. Il y a là le panier avec différents objets, des jouets mais aussi une cuillère à sauce. Melina peut atteindre tous ces objets si elle veut. Elle peut ramper jusqu’à eux de manière autonome et attraper ce qu’elle veut. L’ustensile de cuisine, la cuillère à sauce, a en particulier éveillé son intérêt. Les enfants n’ont pas toujours besoin de jouets spécifiques, des objets de tous les jours peuvent aussi inviter à l’exploration et à l’expérimentation. Et puis il y a aussi le grand miroir. Melina peut y observer précisément ce qu’elle est en train de faire. Plus tard, elle le regardera pour savoir à quoi elle ressemble et quel effet elle produit sur les autres. Le miroir favorise ainsi également la formation de l’identité des enfants. Cela leur permet d’étendre leurs compétences en matière de perception d’eux-mêmes et des autres.

La chambre de Melina est aménagée de manière à lui offrir des sollicitations mais également à lui permettre de se reposer. Elle n’est ni trop vide ni trop pleine d’objets. L’espace invite à jouer et à explorer, mais l’enfant n’est pas submergé de sollicitations.

Pour que les enfants puissent se confronter à leur environnement et à eux-mêmes, ils ont besoin d’un lien sûr avec des personnes de référence. Pouvoir se consacrer de manière active et autonome et s’absorber dans quelque chose d’intéressant est important dans les processus de développement et d’apprentissage.

## Imparare con tutti i sensi

La mamma di Melina ha deposto sul pavimento un cesto contenente vari oggetti. Melina curiosa si avvicina al cesto e toglie uno dopo l’altro i vari oggetti. Tra questi ultimi anche un cucchiaio per la salsa. Melina osserva come il cucchiaio si muove e quale rumore fa nel momento in cui rotola sul pavimento in avanti e indietro. L’interesse di Melina è ora particolarmente elevato. Melina prende il cucchiaio e se lo porta alla bocca. Sente e gusta, prima una parte e poi l’altra. E’ possibile che senta anche l’odore del metallo. Subito dopo, con il braccio, solleva verso l’alto e verso il basso il cucchiaio, si gratta la testa e poi lo rimette in bocca. In bocca lo esplora in modo approfondito. Poi, il cucchiaio, cade per terra e di nuovo si possono sentire i rumori di qualche cosa che sbatte. Melina ascolta. Dopo averlo guardato e messo in bocca un’ultima volta, Melina rivolge di nuovo la sua attenzione al cesto. Per poter esplorare il cucchiaio Melina fa capo a tutti i suoi sensi. Ciò facendo impara a conoscere alcune cose riguardanti la forma e la struttura del cucchiaio. Manifesta il suo entusiasmo emettendo suoni ed espressioni di giubilo.

Ma non è il solo cucchiaio ad entusiasmare Melina, anche il bambino piccolo che si trova di fronte sollecita la sua attenzione. Non ha ancora realizzato che non si tratta di un altro bambino, ma bensì della sua persona allo specchio. In un primo tempo osserva affascinata i movimenti e la mimica. I bambini piccoli imparano facendo e osservando.

## Ambiente di apprendimento stimolante

Melina è seduta per terra nella sua cameretta per bambini. Lo spazio è organizzato in modo tale da permettere a Melina di esplorare ciò che le sta attorno senza pericolo. La madre è nelle vicinanze a portata di sguardo e di ascolto. Qualora la figlia avesse bisogno potrebbe intervenire immediatamente. E’ in questo modo che Melina può compiere il suo viaggio esplorativo. La madre ha predisposto molte cose per consentire alla figlia di poter usufruire di molte opportunità di apprendimento. Una circostanza è quella del cesto con diversi oggetti: un paio di giochi e persino un cucchiaio per la salsa. Melina può raggiungere i vari oggetti senza difficoltà. Può avvicinarsi al cesto in modo autonomo e togliere ciò che desidera. In primo luogo è l’oggetto della vita casalinga che attira il suo interesse, vale a dire il cucchiaio per la salsa.

Non devono essere sempre gli oggetti specifici per il gioco che stimolano l’esplorazione e la sperimentazione, sono sovente gli oggetti della quotidianità che rispondono a questa esigenza. Oltre a ciò, c’è anche un grande specchio. Attraverso lo specchio Melina può osservare, in modo preciso, ciò che fa. Più in là nel tempo, si guarderà allo specchio per sapere come appare e quale effetto ha sull’ esterno. E’ in questo modo che lo specchio contribuisce a strutturare l’identità dei bambini. E’ così che i bambini ampliano la loro competenza percettiva verso se stessi e verso altre persone.

La camera di Melina è arredata in modo da permetterle di essere attiva, ma anche di potersi riposare. L’arredamento non è troppo vuoto, ne’ troppo pieno di oggetti. Lo spazio favorisce il gioco e l’esplorazione. Il bambino non viene sommerso da stimoli. Per consentire ai bambini di potersi confrontare con l’ambiente, e con loro stessi, devono poter usufruire di un legame sicuro con una persona di riferimento. Per lo sviluppo e per l’apprendimento è per il bambino importante poter essere attivo per conto proprio con qualche cosa che gli consenta di approfondire i suoi interessi.
