## Alltagssituationen als Gesprächsanlässe nutzen (S. 22)
Der schöne Frühlingstag lädt zu einem Spaziergang am Bach entlang ein. Olívia, Mama und Mini haben Zeit, um zu verweilen und die Umgebung zu erkunden. Eine tolle Gelegenheit, um sich über Gesehenes und Erlebtes auszutauschen. Olívia kann sich verbal noch nicht so gut äussern. Aber mit ihrer Mimik, der Blickrichtung, dem Zeigefinger und der ganzen Körperhaltung gelingt es ihr bestens, sich mitzuteilen. Die Mutter ist ganz für Olívia da. Sie begibt sich auf Augenhöhe mit ihrer Tochter, nimmt ihre Signale wahr, erkennt, wofür sie sich interessiert und fasst dies in Worte („Möchtest du die Blume sehen?“; „Möchtest du Steinchen ins Wasser werfen?“). Während die beiden so die nähere Umgebung erforschen, eröffnet sich für Olívia auch sprachlich eine neue Welt.

## Gegenstände, Tätigkeiten und Eigenschaften benennen (S. 28)
Die verbale Begleitung des gemeinsamen Tuns ist zentral für Olívias Sprachentwicklung. Die Mutter benennt die Dinge und bettet die Wörter in das gemeinsam Erlebte ein („Das ist Wasser. Das ist ganz weit weg.“). Mit Worten und Sätzen begleitet sie zudem Olívias Handeln und bereichert das Gespräch mit zusätzlichen Informationen („Mini isst keine Blumen.“). So kann Olívia nach und nach neue Worte in ihren Wortschatz aufnehmen.

## Geteilte Aufmerksamkeit herstellen und aufrechterhalten (S. 23)
Die Grundvoraussetzung für gemeinsames Verstehen ist die Herstellung geteilter Aufmerksamkeit. Mit dem Zeigefinger macht Olívia ihre Mama auf Dinge aufmerksam, die sie interessieren: die Blumen, das Wasser und die langen Gräser. Die Mutter folgt dem ausgestreckten Finger mit dem Blick und benennt, was sie sieht („Oh, eine Blume.“). Mit sprachlichen Hinweisen lenkt sie ihrerseits die Aufmerksamkeit von Olívia auf bestimmte Dinge („Schau mal, die hier.“). So konzentrieren sich beide auf das Gleiche und können sich darüber austauschen. Mamas Berührungen, Gesten und Mimik unterstreichen das, was sie sagt und helfen, Olívias Aufmerksamkeit aufrecht zu erhalten. ## Using everyday situations as opportunities to engage children in conversation (p. 20)
The beautiful spring day invites people to take a walk along the river. Olívia, Mama and Mini have time to spare and to explore their surroundings. It is a wonderful opportunity to talk about what they see and experience. Olívia cannot yet express herself verbally with confidence. However, she can communicate well with her facial expressions, the direction of her gaze, her index finger and her entire body language. Her mother gives Olívia her full attention. She goes down to eye level with her daughter, pays attention to her signals, recognises what interests her and puts this into words (“Would you like to look at the flowers?“; “Would you like to throw some little stones into the water?“). While the two of them explore the nearby environment, a new linguistic world also opens for Olívia.

## Naming objects, activities, and characteristics (p. 24)
The verbal accompaniment of the joint activity is central for Olívia’s linguistic development. Olívia’s mother names things and embeds the words in what she experiences together with her daughter (“That‘s water. That’s far away.”). She also accompanies Olívia’s actions with words and sentences and enriches the discussion with additional information (“Mini doesn’t eat flowers”). In this way, Olívia can progressively include new words in her vocabulary.

Young children learn with all their senses. This also applies when learning language. Olívia explores the environment with her eyes, hands, ears and nose. Now she knows not only the names of things but also how pebbles feel, how flowers smell and how water sounds in the stream. These sensory experiences help her to understand and connect with what she hears.

## Establishing and maintaining shared attention (p. 20)
The prerequisite for mutual understanding is the establishment of joint attention. Olívia draws her mother’s attention to things that interest her with her index finger: flowers, water and the long grass. Her mother follows the outstretched finger with her gaze and names what she sees (“Oh, a flower”). Using linguistic clues, she draws Olívia’s attention to particular things (“Look at this here”). In this way, the two of them concentrate on the same thing and can talk about it. Her mother’s touches, gestures and facial expressions underscore what she says and help Olívia to maintain her attention. In this way, Olívia’s mother helps her to increase her attention span and to hold increasingly longer dialogues.


## Utiliser les situations du quotidien pour engager des conversations (p. 22)
La belle journée de printemps invite à faire un ballade le long de la rivière. Olívia, sa maman et Mini prennent le temps d’explorer les environs. De cette façon, la mère aide sa fille à maintenir son attention plus longtemps et à mener progressivement des conversations de plus en plus longues.

La bella giornata primaverile è perfetta per una passeggiata lungo il ruscello. Olívia, mamma e Mini hanno tempo per trattenersi e andare alla scoperta dell’ambiente. Una fantastica opportunità per parlare di ciò che accade e che vedono. Olívia non sa ancora esprimersi molto bene verbalmente. Ma la sua mimica, lo sguardo, l’indice e la postura di tutto il corpo le consentono di comunicare perfettamente. La mamma è totalmente a disposizione di Olívia. Guarda la figlia negli occhi, percepisce i suoi segnali, capisce cosa attira la sua attenzione e lo esprime a parole (“Vuoi vedere i fiori?”; “Vuoi gettare i sassolini in acqua?”). Mentre entrambe esplorano l’ambiente circostante, per Olívia si apre un nuovo mondo anche dal punto di vista linguistico.

## Nominare oggetti, attività e caratteristiche (pag. 28)
L’accompagnamento verbale dell’attività comune è centrale per lo sviluppo linguistico di Olívia. La mamma nomina le cose e inserisce le parole nella realtà comune che stanno sperimentando (“È acqua. È molto lontano.”). Con parole e frasi accompagna inoltre le azioni di Olívia e arricchisce la conversazione con informazioni supplementari (“Mini non mangia i fiori.”). In questo modo Olívia può aggiungere via via nuove parole al suo vocabolario.

Ora non conosce solo i nomi delle cose, ma sa anche che sensazione si prova nel toccare i sassolini, che profumo hanno i fiori e che rumore fa l’acqua che scorre nel ruscello. Queste esperienze sensoriali aiutano a comprendere e collegare ciò che sente.

## Creare e mantenere l’attenzione condivisa (pag. 23)
Il presupposto fondamentale per la comprensione comune è la creazione dell’attenzione condivisa. Con l’indice Olívia segnala a sua mamma le cose che le interessano: i fiori, l’acqua e i lunghi fili d’erba. La mamma segue con lo sguardo le sue indicazioni e nomina ciò che vede (“Oh, un fiore.”). Con indicazioni linguistiche sposta a sua volta l’attenzione di Olívia su determinati oggetti (“Guarda questi.”). In questo modo entrambe si concentrano sulle stesse cose e possono interagire. Il contatto fisico con la mamma, i suoi gesti e la sua mimica sottolineano quello che dice e aiutano a mantenere viva l’attenzione di Olívia. In questo modo la mamma aiuta la figlia a sviluppare ulteriormente la sua attenzione e a intrattenere via via dialoghi sempre più lunghi.
