## Passende Unterstützung und Begleitung

Die Kita-Gruppe möchte in den Bewegungsraum gehen, welcher sich im Keller der Einrichtung befindet. Dafür müssen alle eine lange Treppe hinuntersteigen. Statt Enzo zu tragen, lässt die Erzieherin ihn diesen Weg selbständig bewältigen. Gekonnt krabbelt Enzo die Treppe auf allen Vieren hinunter. Mit dem Kopf nach oben, den Füssen nach unten und den Blick auf die Treppenstufen gerichtet, ist es die perfekte Technik für Enzo, um dieses Hindernis zu überwinden. Die Erzieherin ist ganz nah bei ihm. Sie gibt ihm einerseits Freiraum, um ungestört die Stufen hinabzusteigen, andererseits ist sie ihm immer eine Stufe voraus, um ihm, falls nötig, Halt zu geben. Sie bietet Enzo sowohl Sicherheit als auch Autonomie, genau in dem Mass, wie es für Enzo und die Situation passend ist. Eine anregende Lerngelegenheit ist das Hinunterklettern für Enzo sowieso.

Enzo kann die grosse Treppe selbst bewältigen, ohne Angst haben zu müssen. Er weiss, dass die vertraute Erzieherin bei ihm ist und dafür sorgt, dass ihm nichts passiert.

Die letzten drei Stufen schafft Enzo auch mit etwas mehr Abstand zur Erzieherin. Diese kennt Enzo gut und weiss, was sie ihm zutrauen kann und was noch nicht. Dennoch bleibt sie in der Nähe, beobachtet ihn genau und ist jederzeit bereit, Enzo zu unterstützen, falls er Hilfe braucht.

Und so schafft es Enzo schliesslich ans Ziel. Das hat länger gedauert, als wenn die Erzieherin ihn die Treppe runtergetragen hätte. Es hat genau so viel Zeit benötigt, wie Enzo für die selbständige Bewältigung dieser Aufgabe brauchte. Frühkindliche Lernprozesse von Kleinkindern zu ermöglichen und adäquat zu begleiten, erfordert daher oft eine „Entschleunigung“ des Alltags. Kinder lernen in ihrem je eigenen Rhythmus. Mit Kindern mitzugehen, heisst letztlich auch, sich Zeit zu nehmen, die Eigenaktivität, Impulse und Ideen von Kindern entfalten zu lassen. So werden kleine wie grosse Fortschritte ermöglicht und die zunehmende Selbständigkeit des Kindes gestärkt.

## Respektvolle Botschaften, Ermutigungen und Anteilnahme

Was für die Erwachsenen nur eine einfache Treppe ist, ist für ein kleines Kind eine grosse Herausforderung. Enzo krabbelt die ganze Treppe von ganz oben nach ganz unten. Das fordert von ihm nicht nur grobmotorisches Geschick, sondern auch viel Gleichgewichtssinn und Durchhaltevermögen. Doch er erhält von der Erzieherin ermutigenden Zuspruch: „Haben wir es bald geschafft? Noch ein bisschen. Komm!“ Dies motiviert Enzo, weiterzumachen. Mit dem Wort „Super“ lobt die Erzieherin seine bisherige Leistung und spornt ihn an.

Kleine Kinder orientieren sich sehr stark an den Äusserungen und am Verhalten von für sie bedeutungsvollen Bezugspersonen. Deshalb wirken die wertschätzenden Äusserungen der Erzieherin stark auf Enzo. An diesem Beispiel ist dies deutlich daran erkennbar, wie Enzo immer wieder innehält und bei der Erzieherin eine Rückversicherung für sein Verhalten sucht. An ihrer Reaktion erkennt er, ob er es richtig macht und ob er nach jeder geschafften Etappe weiter fortfahren soll. Es ist daher wichtig, dass Bezugspersonen sensibel und unmittelbar auf das Verhalten des Kindes reagieren und mit ihm kommunizieren – mit nonverbalen Signalen (wie z.B. anerkennenden Blicken, einer entgegengestreckten Hand oder einem Lächeln) sowie mit Worten.

## Appropriate support

The day care group wants to go to the movement room, which is located in the basement. To reach it they have to go down a long flight of stairs. Rather than carry Enzo, the teacher allows him to go down the stairs by himself. Enzo skillfully crawls downstairs on all fours. Turned around to face the steps and going feet first with his head up is the perfect technique for Enzo to master this obstacle. His teacher stays very close to him. She is giving him the freedom to climb down the stairs by himself but she is also always just one step ahead of him, where she can support him if needed. She is giving Enzo both security and autonomy, exactly as appropriate for Enzo and the situation. Climbing down the stairs is a stimulating learning opportunity for Enzo as it is.

Enzo can master the long flight of stairs without having to be afraid. He knows that his trusted teacher is with him and that she will make sure that nothing happens to him.

Enzo completes the last three steps with his teacher somewhat further away from him. His teacher knows Enzo very well and knows what he can already do and what not. But she stays nearby, watches him carefully and is ready at a moment’s notice to support him if he needs help.

And so Enzo reaches his goal at last. It has taken longer than if the teacher had simply carried him down the stairs. It took exactly as much time as Enzo needed to perform this task independently. Making it possible for young children to learn and supporting their learning processes adequately often means that we have to “slow down” our daily routine. Children learn according to their own rhythm. Accompanying and responding to children means taking the time to allow them to develop their own activities, stimuli and ideas. This makes it possible for children to progress in small and big steps and strengthens their increasing independence.

## Respectful messages, encouragement and taking interest

What may be a simple staircase for adults is a great challenge for a young child. Enzo crawls down the entire flight of stairs from top to bottom. This demands not only gross motor skills but also a lot of balance and persistence. But he receives encouragement from his teacher, who says: “Now we’ve almost made it. Just a little more. Come on.” This motivates Enzo to keep going. Saying “Super!” his teacher praises his achievement up to now and spurs him on.

Young children are very strongly guided by what the peoplewho are important to them say and do. This is why his teacher’s encouraging words have such a strong effect on Enzo. In this example, it is also clear that Enzo stops again and again and seeks reassurance regarding his actions. Her reaction shows him if he is doing it right and if, after managing each stage, he should continue on. For this reason it is important for adults to respond to children’s actions sensitively and immediately—through non-verbal signals (such as an affirming look, holding out a hand, or a smile) and words.

## Un accompagnement et un soutien adaptés

Le groupe de la garderie veut aller dans la «salle d’activités» qui se trouve à la cave. Tous les enfants doivent donc descendre un long escalier. Au lieu de porter Enzo, l’éducatrice le laisse parcourir tout seul cette distance. Habilement, Enzo descend l’escalier à quatre pattes. La tête vers le haut, les pieds vers le bas et les yeux sur les marches, c’est la technique idéale pour qu’il puisse surmonter cet obstacle. L’éducatrice est tout près de lui. Elle lui laisse la marge nécessaire pour descendre les marches à son rythme, mais elle a toujours une marche d’avance, pour pouvoir le soutenir si nécessaire. Elle lui donne à la fois la sécurité et l’autonomie, exactement dans la mesure où il en a besoin dans cette situation. Descendre ainsi l’escalier est de toute façon une belle occasion d’apprendre pour Enzo.

Il est capable de descendre le grand escalier tout seul, sans avoir peur. Il sait que l’éducatrice qu’il connait bien est à ses côtés et qu’elle veille à ce qu’il ne lui arrive rien.

Il termine les trois dernières marches avec un peu plus de distance avec l’éducatrice. Celle-ci le connait bien et sait ce dont il est déjà capable. Mais elle reste à proximité, l’observe avec attention, prête à intervenir à tout moment, si la nécessité s’en fait sentir.

Et Enzo finit par atteindre son but. Cela a pris plus de temps que s’il avait descendu l’escalier dans les bras de l’éducatrice. Cela a pris exactement le temps dont il a eu besoin pour accomplir cette tâche tout seul. Rendre possible et accompagner de manière appropriée les processus d’apprentissage des jeunes enfants nécessite donc souvent une «décélération» du quotidien. Les enfants apprennent à leur propre rythme. Les accompagner, cela signifie donc aussi consacrer le temps nécessaire pour que leur activité propre, leurs impulsions et leurs idées puissent se déployer. Cela permet de réaliser des progrès, petits et grands, et de renforcer l’autonomie de l’enfant.

## Des messages respectueux, des encouragements et de l’empathie

Ce qui n’est qu’un simple escalier pour les adultes constitue un grand défi pour un jeune enfant. Enzo descend à quatre pattes tout l’escalier, de haut en bas. Il n’a pas seulement besoin d’une bonne motricité globale, mais également d’un sens de l’équilibre développé et d’une bonne persévérance. Mais l’éducatrice est là, qui l’encourage: «On est bientôt arrivé? Encore un peu. Allez, viens, Enzo!» Cela le motive à continuer. En lui disant «Super», elle le félicite pour ce qu’il a déjà fait et l’incite à continuer.

Les jeunes enfants agissent beaucoup en fonction de ce que disent et de ce que font les personnes de référence importantes pour eux. C’est pourquoi les compliments de l’éducatrice ont un effet considérable sur Enzo. On le voit très clairement dans cet exemple, lorsqu’Enzo marque un arrêt et attend une confirmation de la part de l’éducatrice avant de continuer. La réaction de cette dernière lui indique s’il a bien fait et s’il doit continuer après chaque étape. C’est pourquoi il est important que les personnes de référence réagissent avec tact et immédiatement au comportement des enfants et communiquent avec eux, tant avec des signaux non verbaux (par exemple des regards bienveillants, une main tendue ou un sourire) qu’avec des paroles.

## Accompagnamento e sostegno adeguati

Il gruppo dell’asilo-nido ha l’intenzione di recarsi nella sala del movimento che si trova in cantina. Per arrivarci occorre scendere una lunga scala. L’educatrice rinuncia a prendere in braccio Enzo e lo lascia scendere da solo. Enzo scende a gatta in modo sicuro. La testa è rivolta verso l’alto, i piedi verso il basso e lo sguardo verso gli scalini, è questa la tecnica applicata in modo perfetto da Enzo per superare questo ostacolo. L’educatrice gli sta accanto. Da un lato, gli concede lo spazio necessario per permettergli di scendere indisturbato la scala, da un altro lato, si posiziona sempre un paio di scalini più avanti per poterlo fermare in caso di necessità. Nella misura delle esigenze richieste dalla situazione e da Enzo, concede sicurezza e autonomia. In ogni caso scendere quella scala è comunque, per Enzo, un’occasione di apprendimento.

Enzo può far fronte da solo alla scala senza dover avere paura. Egli sa che può aver fiducia nell’ educatrice e sa di poter usufruire del suo sostegno affinché non gli possa capitare nulla di sgradevole. Gli ultimi tre scalini Enzo li supera con una distanza maggiore dall’educatrice. Quest’ultima conosce bene Enzo e sa cosa gli può o non può concedere. Ciononostante gli rimane accanto, lo osserva con attenzione ed è pronta a intervenire e a sostenerlo qualora Enzo avesse bisogno di aiuto.

E’ così che Enzo raggiunge il traguardo. La cosa è durata più a lungo rispetto al caso in cui sarebbe stata l’educatrice a portarlo in braccio. Il tempo è stato quello necessario per permettere a Enzo di far fronte, da solo, a questo compito. I processi di apprendimento dei bambini piccoli richiedono forme di accompagnamento nelle quali, nella quotidianità, si concede un cambiamento dei tempi e dei modi. I bambini imparano seguendo il loro ritmo. Prendere parte a ciò che fanno i bambini significa, anche, prendersi il tempo per consentire a questi ultimi di svolgere le loro attività, di manifestare i loro impulsi e le loro idee. E’ in questo modo che è possibile compiere piccoli e grandi passi verso il graduale consolidamento dell’autonomia del bambino.

## Messaggi rispettosi, incoraggiamenti e partecipazione

Ciò che, per gli adulti, è semplicemente una scala, per un bambino piccolo è una grande sfida. Enzo la percorre a gatta dall’alto verso il basso fino in fondo. Questa impresa comporta, non solo capacità motorie globali, ma anche molto equilibrio e perseveranza. Dall’educatrice Enzo riceve messaggi di approvazione: “Ce l’abbiamo quasi fatta? Ancora un pochino. Vieni!“. Tutto ciò spinge Enzo a continuare. Attraverso la parola „Super“ l’educatrice loda il suo impegno e lo stimola.

I bambini piccoli adeguano molto la loro attività alle esternazioni e al comportamento delle persone di fiducia. E’ per tale ragione che il modo di valorizzare Enzo da parte dell’educatrice hanno su di lui un grande effetto. Nel caso specifico è possibile riconoscere come, Enzo, si fermi di tanto in tanto per cercare nell’educatrice conferma di ciò che sta facendo. In base alla risposta, Enzo capisce se sta agendo in modo corretto e se, dopo il superamento di ogni tappa, può continuare. E’ perciò importante che le persone di riferimento reagiscano in modo sensibile al comportamento del bambino e comunichino attraverso messaggi non verbali (ad esempio con sguardi d’intesa, allungando una mano, oppure con un sorriso) e con parole.
